Iliana Morton Photography: The First Look
Last month we introduced you to our good vendor friend Iliana Morton of Iliana Morton Photography. Well recently we asked Iliana to give us a common wedding ‘challenge’ and a suggestion for improvement. Below is what she said:
****
There are a few things I routinely deal with at a wedding or event. I guess the biggest one is that no matter how much I insist that clients need to have “buffer time” in their time line, people continue to not heed my advice, and sadly we end up having to rush through some items on their photo agenda. Things happen and sometimes weddings run a bit behind. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it does become stressful for everyone if we are all rushing to get requested shots done in half the time they had planned for.
A lot of clients want to join their guests at cocktail hour, and I can totally understand that. If this is something you are interested in, I suggest doing ‘first look’ photos with your fiancé before the ceremony. Building in the first look will allow us to set aside an additional hour or two for photos of just you two. How amazing!
If you aren’t interested in doing the first look, then for best results, build in an additional 15 – 20 minutes for photos. If that means extending cocktail hour from one hour to one and a half hours, I recommend making this change. Even if we don’t ‘need’ the extra time, we can use it creatively and get some extra shots that you and your spouse will cherish always.
